Dear friends and companions of Malteser International,
during more than 13 years of war in Syria, the border region around northwest Syria and south Türkiye has become a place of refuge for millions of displaced people. Many of them had succesfully rebuilt their lives – until one year ago several disastrous earthquakes destroyed their homes and livelihoods and cost more than 60.000 people their lives. How are the survivors today?

Millions of people in Syria and Türkiye still reside in emergency shelters. Especially in Syria, there has been almost no rebuilding progress in the past year, and now during the winter life in the camps is particularly hard. The people lack work, education, earthquake-resistant housing, means to cope with the trauma. And with every new crises springing up in the world, international funding for the most basic humanitarian aid in Syria had to be cut back further. Or in other words: there is an increasing shortage of food. Which is why the staff of the local health services we support currently receive more and more undernourished children and their desperate parents.
One year has passed, and still every donation counts to save children from hunger and support the people in rebuilding their lives. Thank you for not forgetting the people affected by war and earthquake!
