Dear friends and companions of Malteser International,
A year has passed since the Middle East conflict escalated. A year marked by unimaginable suffering for the civilian population in the Gaza Strip, which continues to this day. According to the UN, 90 percent of the more than two million people living in the Gaza Strip have been displaced in the last twelve months, some of them up to ten times.
Almost 80 percent of medical care has collapsed. Pregnant women, cancer patients, the chronically ill, the acutely injured: they all receive virtually no care. Clean drinking water has become dangerously scarce. In addition, 1.3 million people are currently experiencing a catastrophic shortage of food or are already starving (IPC).
In recent weeks, massive attacks on the south and east of Lebanon have also caused the displacement of around one million Lebanese people in a very short space of time. “Our colleagues on the ground are working far beyond the usual level to bring aid to the people,” reports Lisa Kramer, our country coordinator for Lebanon.

| Despite the highly dangerous situation, we continue our work: During the last weeks, , our third and fourth aid deliveries with a total of 60 tons of food arrived in North Gaza, supported by the German Federal Foreign Office and “Aktion Deutschland Hilft”. In Lebanon, we are expanding our medical aid together with the Order of Malta Lebanon and distributing hot meals.
I would like to thank the many people who have already supported our emergency aid from the bottom of my heart. Every euro counts! Please continue to help us with your donations and save lives now!

The situation for people in Lebanon continues to worsen after the recent escalation: “Many people had to flee quickly and have only been able to take the essentials with them. According to government figures, over one million people are now internally displaced. The Lebanese government is talking about the largest number of internally displaced persons in an extremely limited period of time in the country's history. People are queuing up outside the Order of Malta Lebanon’s community health centers,” reports Lisa Kramer, country coordinator for Malteser International in Lebanon.

The third delivery of vital relief supplies to the parish in norther Gaza, carried out in cooperation between the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem and the Sovereign Order of Malta, was distributed to people in need on September 23rd. In addition to non-perishable goods such as chickpeas and dates, this time it also included fresh fruit and vegetables. For many of the people who received parcels, it was the first time in months that they had been able to get fresh fruit and vegetables.
