Dear Friends,
In these uncertain and worrying times, I hope that you and your family are well. These are uncharted waters for all of us. The coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic has upended our lives. There is anxiety and everyone is worried about their health and that of their loved ones. We are now working remotely to support the social distancing recommendations of public health officials.
This crisis calls for solidarity beyond borders. My appeal to you today is to recognize that the poorest and most vulnerable people in the world will be the hardest hit. They are the displaced families who have no homes to practice social distancing because they live in overcrowded camps, people who can not wash their hands regularly because they lack access to water and soap, and communities in places with already fragile health systems.
Malteser International already has experience in limiting the spread of infectious diseases like Ebola, and we are building on this experience to mitigate the spread of the coronavirus across our programs. We are providing information about the virus, distributing hygiene articles, setting up hand washing stations, and equipping health stations.
Our lifesaving work has never been more critical and the need for support has never been greater. Now more than ever, we count on you to continue supporting our mission for the world’s most vulnerable people – despite these difficult times.
