Dear Friends,

Soap and water are our first line of defense against coronavirus, but not all of us have easy access to safe water and sanitation. Ten years after the UN General Assembly recognized the human right to water and sanitation, 785 million still lack access to clean water.

The pandemic has added urgency to the fight for the human right to water, so we used the 10th anniversary of the UN declaration to call for more engagement in providing clean water and good hygiene to the most vulnerable people.

We have a long way to go to make it a reality, but our teams are working flat out to continue to support those most in need. Your gift can provide them with clean water, soap and information to keep safe from COVID-19 and other diseases, while giving frontline healthcare and aid workers the necessary supplies to care for the vulnerable and sick.

Clean water is a human right, not a privilege

On July 28, 2010, the United Nations explicitly recognized the human right to water. While progress has been made in the past decade, over 700 million people around the world still lack access to basic water supply and 2 billion do not have clean sanitary facilities.

New hope for Gorgine

Renewed violence in Ituri, the northeastern province of the Democratic Republic of the Congo is driving people across the border into Uganda. Many have gone weeks without adequate food, clean drinking water, and shelter as the border was previously closed because of the coronavirus pandemic. Uganda has now received about 3,000 refugees. Gorgine is one of them and talks about her ordeal.
