Dear friends and companions of Malteser International,
One year ago today, the unimaginable became true: There is war in Europe. The Russian war of aggression on Ukraine and its consequences is one of the greatest humanitarian disasters of our time. The suffering of the people on the ground is beyond imagination and seems to have no end: More than 17 million people are in need of humanitarian assistance (Source: UN OCHA, 02/2023).
From day one, the Malteser family worldwide stood alongside the people affected by the war. We provided medical assistance and food to refugees at the borders, welcomed them in neighboring countries, brought around 8,700 tons of relief supplies from Germany and provided psychosocial support.
All this was only possible thanks to your incredible support: We are more than grateful!
And we continue: We stay at the side of the people in Ukraine and the refugees as long as they need our support.
One year has passed since the nationwide war of aggression on Ukraine. And we must not lose sight of the need in Ukraine, despite all the misfortunes in the world. The people still need our support. We will expand our psychosocial support programs and deliver relief supplies, especially to the east of the country. A marathon of reconstruction awaits us, for which we need perseverance. And above all, your continued support.
Help us to help and give hope for the future to the people of Ukraine.
