Dear friends and supporters of Malteser International,
Do you know the feeling of waiting for an important message and checking your phone again and again?
Olena waits everyday. Her husband serves in the Ukrainian Armed Forces. When the familiar green check marks show that he has read her message, it brings her a short moment of relief. Until the next message. Anxiety has become part of her life.
Olena is a family doctor and a mother. She fled Kherson with her daughter after the city came under occupation. She now lives in Mykolaiv, caring for her patients and her daughter while constantly worrying about her husband at the front.
Finding strength in uncertain times
Through psychosocial support provided by our partner Mental Health Service, Olena has learned that constant worrying drains her strength and doesn't make her husband any safer. She has also found ways to better manage moments of anxiety when they arise. |
