Dear friends and companions of Malteser International,
On behalf of the Executive Board and the entire Malteser International team, I am very pleased to send you our Annual Report 2023. According to the latest UNHCR report, more than 117 million people were displaced in 2023 – more than ever before. People in 59 countries suffered from acute hunger, especially women and children (GRFC 2024). The effects of climate change in the Global South, armed conflicts in Ukraine and many other countries, as well as natural disasters such as the earthquakes in Syria, Türkiye, and Morocco are some of the causes of the increasing suffering of so many people. The need for humanitarian aid grows year after year.
At Malteser International, we are ready to meet these immense challenges now and in the future. The solidarity and trust of our donors as well as the Sovereign Order of Malta's strong network are the foundation of our mission. Together, we are working for a world in which a life of health and dignity is possible for all people.
In our Annual Report 2023, you can read about the projects with which we have already achieved a lot in the past year. On behalf of over five million others, some of the people we were able to support also have their say here. Each of their hope-inspiring stories encourages us time and again and shows us that we are on the right way.
I thank you from the bottom of my heart for you unwavering support as we walk this way together.
Yours sincerely,
|

| Our Annual Report 2023
Last year, thanks to your support, we were able to make a real difference for more than 5.6 million people in need. The health and well-being of the people we work with are the focus of our aid. Support for displaced people remained another of the focal points of our work, as more and more countries and their inhabitants are affected by violent conflicts and the effects of climate change. Take a look back with us at the events and successes of our work in 2023 in our newly published annual report and get a deeper insight into our global work.

| Support for Refugees from Sudan
According to the United Nations, approximately 740,000 individuals have crossed the border into South Sudan, fleeing hunger and violence, since the war in Sudan began more than a year ago. With support from the German Federal Foreign Office, Malteser International is allocating 200,000 euros to assist both the refugees and the host communities.
I want to know more.
