Dear friends and companions of Malteser International,
345 million people are currently suffering from hunger. A number that is difficult to grasp. A number that conceals individual fates. For many, one meal can mark the difference between life and death.
Together we can change their fates and give people worldwide the opportunity to live a self-determined life in health and dignity, free from hunger and poverty.
345 million people are currently suffering from hunger. That is more than twice as many people as before the coronavirus pandemic. The reasons for this massive increase are complex:
The economic impact of the Corona pandemic, the increased impacts of climate change such as drought and flooding, conflicts and wars. For weeks, millions of tons of wheat are stuck in the port of Odessa and cannot be exported to countries such as the DR Congo. As a result, prices are rising. Fertilizers and gasoline are also becoming more expensive.
345 million people are suffering from hunger. A number difficult to grasp. And yet a number that calls for action.
Now. Not tomorrow.
On high level meeting with the Executive Director of the World Food Programme in Rome, Governor David Beasley in June, he stressed the explosion in famine and the potential important role for Malteser International as a local highly appreciated partner with acceptance in communities and global diplomatic network of the Order of Malta. We will open our plattform to the WFP on joining them on the fight against hunger.
We act. We strengthen small-scale agriculture in the DR Congo, Haiti and South Sudan. We are promoting urban gardening projects in Syria. In Kenya, where a devastating drought has already claimed the lives of millions of farm animals, we distribute food to people in need. And we do so much more.
Help us with your donation!
Let us act together against hunger.
Thank you for your support.
#TogetherAgainstHunger
Yours sincerely,
