Dear Friends,
A tumultuous year in which we have all been faced with many challenges and significant changes is now thankfully drawing to its close. As the new Secretary General of Malteser International, I would like to thank you for your consistent friendship and support during this time.
Humanitarian issues have not taken a break during the pandemic, and neither has our mission – to serve those suffering because of greed, conflict, and injustice. Our practiced efficiency has helped us to carry out that mission as best we can, but your support was very crucial.
For most of us, this Christmas will be very much unlike those that we have celebrated in the past. Families will remain apart, traditions will remain unobserved, and many will spend the feast under a shadow. Yet, we can draw hope from the message of the Christmas gospel: “Do not be afraid!” (Lk. 1:30 ff). This is a time to truly see what Christmas is all about: Jesus, the light shining in the darkness. And so, despite the difficulties of the year, we chorus with the angels and sing: “Glory to God in the highest. Peace on earth and goodwill to all people!”
On behalf of the entire team at Malteser International, I would like to wish you and your loved ones a blessed Christmas, good health, and God’s rich blessings for 2021.
