Dear friends and companions of Malteser International,
Every year at Christmas time, the rifts in the world become particularly clear to us. Disputes, stress, and bad news from all over the world stand in stark contrast to our longing for peace and joy during this season. For Christians, however, Christmas means more: hope. Because Jesus brought good news: “I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness.” (John 12:46)
Our Christmas wish at Malteser International? To bring as much hope as possible to people in need through our work. Hope that a better future awaits at the end of hardship. Hope that the road there is paved with dignity and solidarity. Hope that the rifts in the world will one day become smaller.
The past year has brought us a lot of good news. Did you miss them? Then please find some of our highlights below. Another piece of good news? You! Because your trust and donations make our work possible – now and in the future.
From the bottom of my heart: thank you! I wish you a blessed and peaceful Christmas.
Yours sincerely,
|

| Good news: Relief aid for Gaza at last
What our emergency aid specialists had been working towards for months finally happened at the end of July: Thanks to a unique collaboration, the first of our aid deliveries arrived in Gaza and was distributed to people in need. Several more followed, and by mid-October, 100 tons of food and other relief supplies had reached the new distribution center.

| Good news: Khadija's life goes on
When her parents brought Khadija, 12 months old, to our health station in Pakistan this year, she was severely malnourished and in pain. Thanks to her parents' decision to seek help from our nutrition experts, the little girl survived. We have been providing health and nutrition services in 11 camps for Afghan refugees since June 2023. Khadija's case has been one of over 62,300 consultations the local team carried out in 2024 alone.

| Good news: 86 wells supply drinking water
This year, we have built nine solar wells in Nigeria, bringing the total number of wells we built at our three locations there up to 86. Thanks to this, thousands of people have access to safe drinking water that they previously lacked. We also support the local water and hygiene committees that now maintain the wells.

| Good news: Naw Dah Poe sees her grandchildren again
In two refugee camps in Thailand that we support, we enabled 37 patients to undergo urgently needed eye surgeries this November. One of them is Naw Dah Poe, who can weave again thanks to the operation – and see her grandchildren more clearly. A cooperation with local partner organizations and specialists made this possible.
