Dear friends and companions of Malteser International,
seven month after the Hamas's attack on Israel, the war in the Middle East still rages on. For the civilian population in Gaza, the situation grows more acute every day. Due to the ongoing armed conflict, people in need in the Gaza strip are almost cut off from the outside world, and access to humanitarian and medical aid and essential goods is severely limited. The supply of food and other essential goods as well as medical care are as good as impossible.
One of the major needs is (non-perishable) food. The entire population is affected by acute food insecurity. Currently 1.1 million people are experiencing catastrophic food insecurity. In northern Gaza, every third child under two years of age suffers from undernourishment.
At the same time, the healthcare system has collapsed. Many hospitals had to shut down partly or completely. The few remaining functional clinics are overwhelmed, and healthcare workers operate under extreme conditions. In addition, there is a lack of vital medicines and medical supplys.
Together with the Order of Malta and local partner organizations we are on the ground to support the people in Gaza. Among other things, we provide non-perishable food, ready-to-eat meals, and specialized food for undernourished children, as well as further relief goods.
In light of the catastrophic situation in the Gaza strip, I ask you with all my heart: Please support our work, and help the people in Gaza with your donation.

On May 16th, His Beatitude, Pierbattista Cardinal Pizzaballa, Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem entered Gaza and reached the parish of the Holy Family for a pastoral visit. Together with His Beatitude was Fra’ Alessandro de Franciscis, Grand Hospitaller of the Sovereign Order of Malta. Accompanying the small delegation was also Fr. Gabriele Romanelli, parish priest of Gaza. They met the suffering population to encourage them and to deliver a message of hope, solidarity, and support.

In 2023, Malteser International commissioned the Global Public Policy Institute (GPPi) to conduct a study to determine the feasibility of integrating Anticipatory Action into our humanitarian program work. This month, our study was released, and we are convinced that the findings will also benefit other organizations seeking to implement Anticipatory Action.
