Dear friends and supporters of Malteser International,
“I can't find a single word in a dictionary that describes the magnitude of the violence taking place here.” says Dr. Ali Ibrahim Al-Musaddar, our Medical Director in Gaza. He adds: "When starvation reaches some point, it is irreversible. People fear for their children, their future." The extreme conditions civilians in Gaza have to endure since October 2023 may currently be the most heart-breaking and shocking ones that reach us through the news. Sadly, they are by far not the only ones: Countless lives in the Middle East have been shaped by crisis during the last decades.
Support for those who lost everything
In Gaza, Lebanon, Syria, Türkiye, and Yemen, we support people caught in the midst of conflict, poverty, natural catastrophes, and displacement. Our teams and those of our partner organizations provide life-saving healthcare and psychosocial support, training for medical staff, as well as water, sanitation, and hygiene services. In camps for internally displaced people in north-western Syria, our partner organization on the ground bakes and distributes 2,460 loaves of bread daily – they go to families like little Basima's*, in the photo above.
Our work in the Middle East
Learn more about our relief projects in the Middle East in the articles below! Work that is only possible because of people like you. Thank you! Your support is more than a donation – it’s a lifeline. It means a warm blanket, a safe birth, a chance to heal. It means telling someone in crisis: You are not forgotten. Yours sincerely,

The current humanitarian situation for the civilian population in the Gaza Strip is life-threatening. Around 1.9 million people - 90 percent of the total population - are displaced within Gaza. Famine is spreading and only a fraction of pre-war healthcare infrastructure is still in operation. Together with the Order of Malta and the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem, we have distributed vital relief supplies and are working to provide medical support.

For years, the people in Lebanon have been struggling with the most devastating and complex crisis in their country's modern history. In addition to the country's political instability, the people are suffering from the financial crisis that has been ongoing since 2019 and the displacement following the escalation of the conflict between Israel and the Hezbollah in September 2024. Together with our partner, the Order of Malta Lebanon, we have been working in Lebanon for Syrian refugees and Lebanese people in need since 2012. Our focus is on the provision of healthcare, as well as on food and nutrition security, particularly via the Order of Malta Lebanon's mobile units. |

Almost 14 years of civil war and the devastating earthquakes in February 2023 have severely damaged or destroyed large parts of the infrastructure in Syria. The work of health facilities is severly inhibited due to funding cuts. Millions are still displaced, lacking shelter, food, and water. We have been on the ground with our partner organisations since 2012, providing emergency aid including health support, water, sanitation, and hygiene services as well as ensuring food and nutrition support.

Türkiye is still home to one of the largest numbers of refugees in the world, most of them from neighboring Syria. Although a significant number of Syrian families have returned to their home country in 2025, 2.87 million refugees were still registered by the Government of Türkiye as of September 2025 (UNHCR). We have been on the ground with our partner organizations since 2012, having provided vital emergency aid since the 2023 earthquakes. Until today our efforts have remained centered on supporting people impacted by them. |

For over a decade, Yemen has been facing one of the world's worst humanitarian crises. The ongoing conflict has displaced millions, largely destroyed the health system, and led to alarmingly high levels of malnutrition. The long-standing conflict has also had a serious impact on the mental health of the population. We have been working in Yemen since early 2025, with ADRA Germany and ADRA Yemen as partners. Our work is focused on three governorates in the south of the country, where we support training for health staff in the field of mental health and psychosocial support. |
