Dear Friends,
COVID-19 is pushing many vulnerable communities in Africa to the brink of a 'hunger pandemic'. Mutually reinforcing factors, including conflict and poverty, have driven this food insecurity. However, restrictions and economic downturns have made it more difficult to access food. Extreme weather events such as floods and drought are also adding a new level of danger. Today, over 30 million people in DR Congo, Nigeria, and South Sudan are now food insecure.
Our teams are bringing vital medical and humanitarian support to the most vulnerable in these countries, providing food for malnourished children, seeds for families, and training on sustainable cultivation.

| The Bahamas: Rebuilding Post-Dorian During a Pandemic
It’s been a year since Hurricane Dorian made landfall in The Bahamas, leaving thousands of people homeless and communities in shambles. In a conversation with our partner All Hands and Hearts, we look back on a year of rehabilitation even as affected communities battle the COVID-19 pandemic.

| Inclusive Disaster Risk Reduction
October 13 is International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction. Because we believe that the best way to cope with natural disasters is to be well-prepared, we work to ensure the full and meaningful participation of all groups and individuals in disaster preparedness activities, particularly the most vulnerable.

Nine years into the Syria crisis, Lebanon continues to host the largest number of refugees per capita in the world, with the Government estimate at 1.5 million Syrian refugees. The presence of a large refugee population in a country facing deep economic and financial crises is increasingly affecting inter-community relations and social stability.
In order to improve healthcare for refugees as well as for the host communities, we have supported the establishment of a health centre in Deir-El-Ahmar in close cooperation with its local partner organisation, the Lebanese Association of the Order of Malta.
