Dear friend and supporter of Malteser International,
How are your New Year's resolutions going? Still active or already abandoned? I have not set myself any specific resolutions for 2026. Why? Because the world around us is changing so rapidly that I feel that to be inappropriate. The already eventful start to the year in global politics confirms this.
What I do commit to during this year is an open mind and a keen eye to all those changes – to support Malteser International and the people we serve in navigating these changes well.
We all work hard every day to ensure that Malteser International remains the relevant and effective actor it is today. Amidst a historic funding crisis in humanitarian work, we stand by the side of people in need with dedication, creativity, energy – and with your support.
I invite you to follow us through this year that sets out to be challenging on many levels. Most of all for the millions of children, women, and men who are forced to live through crises, conflicts, and catastrophes. Follow our news and social media chanels, spread the word, support, donate. Together, let's make 2026 count: It is worth our while! |
Yours sincerely,
Kees Zevenbergen Director of Programs at Malteser International |

Philipp Gliesche, Program Manager for Malteser International in Ukraine, reports from Kiyv: "Temperatures are expected to remain below zero until the end of January. We have been struggling with constant power cuts since October – but now, during the harshest phase of winter, being completely without heating intensifies the hopelessness many already feel," says Gliesche, and adds: "Our psychologists warn that people's mental health is deteriorating." |

A few weeks ago, our team of medical experts was in Sudan to support the training of medical personnel. There we met three inspiring young people. Listen to their stories: Nursing student Layla dreams of using her skills to help others in the future. As a dedicated doctor in Port Sudan, Ahmed is making a difference in his community. So many others have already left, but Mariam wants to stay to finish her medical training and help her people.
