Dear friends of Malteser International,
In 2023, 280 humanitarian aid workers lost their lives—the highest number recorded in a single year. The United Nations fears that this number could rise this year. Too many humanitarian workers have lost their lives while trying to assist and help others.
Numerous courageous women and men often put their own lives at risk to save others. We would like to express our deep gratitude to them: the refugees who provide aid in camps, the local health workers who care for the sick, and all those who work tirelessly to gain access to conflict zones to deliver food and water.
Above all, we want to remember those who have lost their lives in the service of others. They are the reason why the UN established World Humanitarian Day 16 years ago. Observed annually on August 19, this day commemorates the tragic bombing in Baghdad on August 19, 2003, which claimed the lives of 22 United Nations humanitarian workers.
We also honor our colleagues in Afghanistan, Syria, Ukraine, the DR Congo, and other crisis regions around the world who are doing extraordinary work under extreme conditions.
Let's set an example together! Support us with your donation, your voice, or your commitment to create a world where humanitarian aid can be provided safely and unhindered.
Sincerely yours,
|

| Our support in Lebanon continues
As the conflict between Israel and Lebanese Hezbollah intensifies, the humanitarian situation in the border region worsens daily. The fear of a widespread escalation throughout Lebanon is growing. In response to the dire situation, the Order of Malta Lebanon, in cooperation with Malteser International, is continuously adapting its aid measures in Lebanon to address the current needs.
