Dear friends of Malteser International,
More than three months have passed since Russia attacked our country. Millions of people have had to leave their homes, have been displaced within Ukraine or have fled from the fighting to neighboring countries. Too many have lost their lives, have been injured.
Last week I visited a rehabilitation center for people with disabilities. Since the outbreak of war, this location has become a refuge for refugees and war wounded. In the center, they primarily treat scars of amputations and other war injuries. Last week, 50 war wounded men were admitted and can be cared for up to 30 days. To support this facility, we have now handed over a multifunctional ambulance specially designed to meet the needs of people with physical disabilities. This special ambulance can now be used to transport the injured to other hospitals or for further treatment.
Why am I telling this to you? Because the longer the war lasts, the more people with serious injuries it causes. And because providing good treatment for the sick is becoming more important every day. This is why we need your support.
In this newsletter we look back on three months aid for Ukraine. Together we have already achieved a lot and have been able to make a contribution to alleviating suffering. And we will continue: for the people who need our support.
Our aid in Ukraine will be a task for decades - counteracting its impacts worldwide within Malteser International's programs will be the central task of our colleagues.
Together with the Order of Malta Network, with other organizations and partners, with volunteers and thanks to your support, we will be there, help where help is most needed and support in the long term to sustainably support the people in Ukraine and worldwide.
From the bottom of my heart, I thank you for your support and accompaniment on this long road.
Yours sincerely,
|
