🚨 Massive earthquake strikes Myanmar, tremors felt in Thailand 🚨 A powerful 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck central #Myanmar on Friday near the city of Mandalay, the country’s second largest city, sending tremors as far as Bangkok, #Thailand. The full extent of the damage and potential casualties remain unclear at this time. As one of Asia’s poorest nations, Myanmar faces significant challenges in responding to major natural disasters. Our team is actively reaching out to partner organizations on the ground to assess the impact on local communities and our program activities. So far, there have been no reports of damage or injuries within our structures. We continue to monitor the situation closely and remain in touch with our 180 staff members in Yangon and Shan State. This year's International Women's Day reminded us that empowering women starts with ensuring their fundamental rights – especially access to healthcare. In Pakistan, we are delivering life-saving maternal care to Afghan refugees and host communities: 👩⚕️ Women caring for women: A dedicated team of female doctors is providing essential healthcare services, ensuring that every mother receives dignified, compassionate care, no matter where she comes from. 👶 Delivering 1,685 newborns, including 586 refugee children: Each birth is a testament to hope, resilience, and the power of accessible healthcare. 💡 Impact beyond childbirth: Our initiative fosters community resilience by integrating refugee and host populations, empowering women through Village Health Committees, and ensuring sustainable access to healthcare. When we prioritize women's health and give access to maternal care as a fundamental human right, we lay the foundation for stronger, healthier communities. Because when women thrive, communities thrive. 💜 We want to thank Auswärtiges Amt (Federal Foreign Office) Germany for supporting this project and women worldwide. #AccelerateAction #IWD2024 #WomensHealth #RefugeeCare #MaternalHealth #MalteserInternational #Pakistan

🌾🩸 It’s the Iron Women Who Make Communities Thrive 🌍♀️ Women’s bodies work harder—yet they eat last and least. In the latest edition of OneSec Magazine, Jennifer Arlt, Global Food and Nutrition Security Advisor at Malteser International, unpacks a silent injustice: 🩸 Over 40% of women in low- and middle-income countries suffer from iron deficiency. 🔁 This impacts not just their health—but the development of their children, especially during the first 1,000 days from conception to age two. 🍲 And still, girls and women—whose bodies require more and more complex nutrients—are often the ones who eat last and least. Jennifer makes a powerful case for feminist food and nutrition assistance—not as a fight against men, but as a shared mission that requires everyone at the table. Engaging men in maternal and child nutrition, shifting household power dynamics, and challenging harmful gender norms are all part of building food systems that work—for everyone. 📖 Read the full article: From Anemia to Action – How Iron Can Change the Lives of Women and Communities https://lnkd.in/e2cPKZ-q 📰 Published in OneSec Magazine—where humanitarian and development practitioners share insights that matter. #OneSec #IronWomen #FoodSecurity #GenderEquality #IronDeficiency #FeministAid #MalteserInternational #NutritionJustice #HumanitarianAction

"Bread is the warmth of home, the taste of belonging, the smell of hope." For Ahmed al Ahmed, 57, bread is more than food – it’s a reminder of home, lost to war and displacement. Thirteen years ago, he fled his village in Hama, separated from most of his children. Now, he lives in a tent in Jinderes, struggling to provide for his family. "I had farmland, and my family relied on it. But war and displacement tore us apart," he says. The earthquake made life even harder. "Lately, we had to sacrifice other essentials just to buy bread." Through Malteser International’s Syria Response, supported by Aktion Deutschland Hilft, over 2,942 earthquake-affected families in Jinderes now receive daily bread – providing both food and stability. Local farmers also receive wheat seeds and fertilizers to help rebuild livelihoods. "Now, free bread is delivered to our tent. The money I save helps buy rice, sugar, other essentials. I hope this project continues — there are so many people like us, or even worse off, who desperately need this help" Ahmed says. In Northwest Syria, resilience is tested daily. By supporting families like Ahmed’s, we can help turn hope into reality. Please support the people in Syria: https://bit.ly/4kFh4Jp #Syria #HumanitarianAid #FoodSecurity

🌿✨ Feast of the Annunciation ✨🌿 "Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it done unto me according to thy word." (Luke 1:38) Today, we celebrate Mary's courageous “yes,” a moment of deep faith and trust in God’s call, in spite of the life-changing consequences. Her fiat inspires us in our mission to serve the most vulnerable with compassion and care. For many women, news of a pregnancy can be a source of tremendous anxiety. We work together with mothers and children to help them feel like they can say “yes” to new life more courageously. A great example of this is our work with Malteser International Americas and the Mexican Association of the Order of Malta in #Mexico City, where we stand alongside pregnant mothers and their children, working to prevent the transmission of HIV during pregnancy — helping ensure that every child has the chance for a healthy start to life. 💛 #FeastOfTheAnnunciation #MalteserInternational #FaithInAction #OrderofMalta #HumanitarianAid #MaternalHealth #HIVAIDSAwareness

Many people in Syria have lost everything since the war began. After years of conflict, a severe economic crisis, and the 2023 earthquake, the agricultural sector has been devastated, making food supply a significant challenge. To provide sustainable support to the people in Northwest Syria, we have been distributing seeds and fertilizer to farmers since April 2023. This initiative is in collaboration with our partners Hand in Hand for Aid and Development, with the support of Aktion Deutschland Hilft e.V. and Nachbar in Not. Our dedicated team has also conducted training sessions on sustainable and climate-friendly agriculture in Idlib and Aleppo. Additionally, we have empowered 200 women-led households by providing them with food processing materials and training on how to process and market specific foods. Economic independence is crucial for the people of Syria. Together, we are strengthening resilience and future prospects in Northwest Syria! 🎥 Watch the video to see our team's efforts and how they have been received by the farmers. #HumanitarianAid #MalteserInternational #Syria
