  • "Bread is the warmth of home, the taste of belonging, the smell of hope." For Ahmed al Ahmed, 57, bread is more than food – it’s a reminder of home, lost to war and displacement. Thirteen years ago, he fled his village in Hama, separated from most of his children. Now, he lives in a tent in Jinderes, struggling to provide for his family. "I had farmland, and my family relied on it. But war and displacement tore us apart," he says. The earthquake made life even harder. "Lately, we had to sacrifice other essentials just to buy bread." Through Malteser International’s Syria Response, supported by Aktion Deutschland Hilft, over 2,942 earthquake-affected families in Jinderes now receive daily bread – providing both food and stability. Local farmers also receive wheat seeds and fertilizers to help rebuild livelihoods. "Now, free bread is delivered to our tent. The money I save helps buy rice, sugar, other essentials. I hope this project continues — there are so many people like us, or even worse off, who desperately need this help" Ahmed says. In Northwest Syria, resilience is tested daily. By supporting families like Ahmed’s, we can help turn hope into reality. Please support the people in Syria: https://bit.ly/4kFh4Jp #Syria #HumanitarianAid #FoodSecurity

  • 🌿✨ Feast of the Annunciation ✨🌿 "Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it done unto me according to thy word." (Luke 1:38) Today, we celebrate Mary's courageous “yes,” a moment of deep faith and trust in God’s call, in spite of the life-changing consequences. Her fiat inspires us in our mission to serve the most vulnerable with compassion and care. For many women, news of a pregnancy can be a source of tremendous anxiety. We work together with mothers and children to help them feel like they can say “yes” to new life more courageously. A great example of this is our work with Malteser International Americas and the Mexican Association of the Order of Malta in #Mexico City, where we stand alongside pregnant mothers and their children, working to prevent the transmission of HIV during pregnancy — helping ensure that every child has the chance for a healthy start to life. 💛 #FeastOfTheAnnunciation #MalteserInternational #FaithInAction #OrderofMalta #HumanitarianAid #MaternalHealth #HIVAIDSAwareness

  • Many people in Syria have lost everything since the war began. After years of conflict, a severe economic crisis, and the 2023 earthquake, the agricultural sector has been devastated, making food supply a significant challenge. To provide sustainable support to the people in Northwest Syria, we have been distributing seeds and fertilizer to farmers since April 2023. This initiative is in collaboration with our partners Hand in Hand for Aid and Development, with the support of Aktion Deutschland Hilft e.V. and Nachbar in Not. Our dedicated team has also conducted training sessions on sustainable and climate-friendly agriculture in Idlib and Aleppo. Additionally, we have empowered 200 women-led households by providing them with food processing materials and training on how to process and market specific foods. Economic independence is crucial for the people of Syria. Together, we are strengthening resilience and future prospects in Northwest Syria! 🎥 Watch the video to see our team's efforts and how they have been received by the farmers. #HumanitarianAid #MalteserInternational #Syria

  • Water flows through every aspect of sustainable development. Providing safe water, adequate sanitation, and good hygiene is not just a matter of public health – it is also a matter of human rights. In our water projects worldwide, we aim to build resilience, using a people-centered approach. By working closely with local communities, we create sustainable and inclusive solutions that empower the most vulnerable, including refugees, women, girls, and persons with disabilities. ➡ Find out more: https://malt-int.org/azeu ➡ Support our WASH projects: https://malt-int.org/yh7i #MalteserInternational #WorldWaterDay2025 #Water #Sanitation #Hygiene #WASH

  • Thousands fleeing violence in DR Congo seeking safety in Uganda 🇨🇩🇺🇬 Thousands of refugees from the Democratic Republic of Congo continue to arrive in Uganda, fleeing the growing violence. Every day, families cross the border, searching for safety and stability after leaving everything behind. But their journey doesn’t end at the border – it’s just the beginning of a new chapter. Amon Aruho, our area coordinator in Nakivale Refugee Settlement in southwestern Uganda, shares how refugees are received and supported. We remain committed to helping them rebuild their lives – thanks to the support of Auswärtiges Amt (Federal Foreign Office) Germany. • Water is a human right – but not yet a reality for all 🚰 "While significant progress has been made in improving access to WASH services in our Global WASH Program areas, the journey towards universal coverage is far from complete." – Arno Coerver, Malteser International Global WASH & Environment Advisor At Malteser International, our Global WASH Program is dedicated to ensuring that clean water, safe sanitation, and hygiene are accessible to all. But many still lack safely managed services, making the human right to water and sanitation an urgent priority. Only through concerted efforts can we make clean water and adequate sanitation a reality for everyone. 🔗 With your donation, you can help us make sustainable WASH solutions a reality: https://lnkd.in/e94yQNmX 🔗 Learn more about our Global WASH Program: https://lnkd.in/eVywWnT4 #WorldWaterDay #RightToWater #CleanWaterForAll #MalteserInternational

  • 🚨 Training for Impact: Our EMT in Action at European Table Top Exercise From 22–26 February 2025, two of our Pool of Experts members represented our Emergency Medical Team at the European Civil Protection Mechanism (UCPM) tabletop exercise in Hanover. This was supported by Malteser International's Emergency Relief Team from headquarter level. Experts from Ukraine, Georgia, Norway, Romania, Croatia, Spain, Belgium, and Germany trained together representing: ✅ Medical Teams (EMTs) ✅ Air Medical Evacuation (Medevac) ✅ Search & Rescue (SAR) ✅ Aviation Operations Support (AOS) At a German Federal Agency for Technical Relief (THW) facility, the teams responded to a severe earthquake in the fictional country of Nivaria, analyzing data, coordinating aid, and adapting to a simulated aftershock. This exercise emphasized the importance of coordination and collaboration between European EMTs, search and rescue teams, and aviation support to maximize impact in disaster zones. When a simulated aftershock occurred, teams had to adapt quickly – just as they would in a real emergency. 🙌 We want to thank all participants, organizers and sponsors who made this event a success! These joint training exercises not only improve operational efficiency but also strengthen networks across the European disaster response community. Preparedness today saves lives tomorrow. #MalteserInternational #EmergencyResponse #CivilProtection #DisasterPreparedness #EuropeanCooperation #UCPM #HumanitarianAid #CrisisManagement #EmergencyReliefTeam

  • Fighting Mpox & Strengthening Health Systems in the DR Congo 🇨🇩 At Malteser International, we are committed to protecting communities from Mpox and future epidemics. With €13.5 million in European Union funding, we are working alongside our consortium partners ULB-Coopération and Memisa Belgium to support health authorities in 15 provinces across the DR Congo over the next two years. Our aim is to contribute to the fight against the Mpox epidemic, while at the same time strengthening the overall health system to better respond to possible future epidemics. Last week, we joined the DR Congo health minister, the EU Ambassador, and partners at the official launch of this crucial initiative in Kinshasa – working together to save lives, engage communities, and build a stronger health system for the future. 🔗 Read more about our work in the DR Congo: https://lnkd.in/g_dsx6v7 🔗 Read more about this project (in French): https://lnkd.in/gP3_DHys #MalteserInternational #Mpox #HealthForAll #EuropeanUnion

  • DR Congo: A Well of Change for Kayeny For years, the people of Muguma Village, in Ituri Province, had no access to safe drinking water. Every drop came from the river, contaminated with parasites and bacteria that caused Bilharzia, Typhoid, and Cholera. "Everyone had to fetch water from the river because there was no other water source," recalls Kayeny Rutha, a mother of five and a Community Health Worker. "When Malteser International provided the village with a safe water source, this greatly helped our village because Cholera and Typhoid cases have reduced greatly," says Kayeny. "Before they gave us access to good water, a month would not go by without five to six Cholera or Typhoid cases. This is no longer a problem." In addition to a borehole, new latrines were built. Fewer people risk their health at the river. "We were given a lot of information, which has enabled me to train other community members. This has brought many changes in our village," Kayeny shares. Today, Kayeny doesn’t just witness the change, she leads it. Armed with knowledge, she trains her neighbors, ensuring that her community continues to thrive.
