Planting season is starting, and our team in Pakistan is ready for a fruitful harvest! In flood-affected Khairpur, vulnerable communities are adapting to climate change. With support from Malteser International and SRSO, farmers have set up 20 nurseries and 10 tunnel farms to grow high-demand, off-season vegetables like cucumbers and tomatoes — using climate-smart, water-efficient techniques. With training, technical support, and farming kits, families are rebuilding sustainable livelihoods. “We lost so much. But now, seeing the green vegetables grow, I feel like we’ve taken back control of our lives. We are farmers again - but smarter, stronger, and more united than before.” says Imtiaz Kathoon, one of the project participants. Farmers like Ghulam, Shokat, and Karam are already harvesting success — feeding their families, earning daily income, and inspiring others to grow with resilience. This is community-led change. See the incredible transformation of Swarnolata’s home! After losing her husband to cancer, Swarnolata Biswas worked tirelessly as a daily laborer to provide for her young daughter. But when Cyclone Remal destroyed her home, she lost everything. With no savings to rebuild, she was forced to take shelter in her brother’s yard, struggling to survive. Thanks to support from Mukti Foundation, ADH, and Malteser International, Swarnolata has rebuilt her home and started pig rearing, securing a steady income for the future. Now, she can invest in her business, cover personal expenses, and regain her independence. “It would never have been possible for me to build such a house, but through Mukti Foundation, ADH-Malteser International has built a house for a widow like me. (...) Now, I am very happy. I will not have to take shelter in anyone else's house anymore,” says Swarnolata. Swarnolata’s journey is a powerful reminder of how targeted humanitarian aid restores dignity and opportunity. Gardens in the Desert: Growing Hope in Rajasthan In the heart of the Thar Desert, where extreme drought makes survival a daily challenge, Chuni Devi's flourishing garden appears like an oasis. Three years ago, her land was barren and dry. Today, thanks to Malteser International, UNNATI, and BMZ, her garden is home to over 100 plant species, improving food security and sustainable income for her family. Through sustainable farming practices, organic pesticides, and rainwater harvesting, Chuni Devi has turned her once-barren land into her livelihood. Her dedication proves that even the harshest landscapes can bear fruit with the right knowledge and perseverance.
