The greatest gift

Dear Friends,

Every year, nearly 300,000 women die from pregnancy and birth-related complications around the world. That is about 800 women every day, almost all of them come from the world’s poorest countries. Most of these deaths could have been averted through basic medical interventions but in many parts of the world, health systems struggle to provide quality essential services to save the lives of mothers and children.

Malteser International is committed to addressing the needs of vulnerable women in Colombia, Thailand, Kenya, and Tanzania, and supporting them to access the cost-effective and quality care they need to be able to deliver safely.

So if you are looking for inspiring gift ideas for this Christmas, I invite you to donate to our 2019 Christmas Appeal and help protect vulnerable women during pregnancy and after childbirth, while ensuring that their babies have a healthy start in life.

This could be the greatest gift of the season.

With my heartfelt thanks for your continuing support,

Ingo Radtke
Secretary General, Malteser International
