Dear Friends,
In May, an aerial bomb attack severely damaged the Malteser International-supported Kafr Nobol hospital in Idlib, Syria. It was the only surgery clinic within a 50 kilometre radius. We condemn these attacks in the strongest terms possible.
Children are not responsible for the bombs and bullets, but they are often the worst affected. They need safe spaces to work through their experiences. For 10-year-old Shahed, a Syrian child refugee, our children care center in Turkey provides an opportunity for self-expression, and a way to deal with the trauma she has endured.
Also in May, we concluded the relief mission that was launched in response to Cyclone Idai in Mozambique.
Whether it is in the coflict regions of the Middle East, or in disaster-ridden communities in Mozambique, we are unwavering in our commitment to do our best to help the poor and sick live in health and dignity. Thank you for supporting us in that mission!

Wars and conflict can affect a child’s feeling of security and hope, displacement can also turn a child’s life upside down. One year ago, Shahed and her family fled to Turkey to escape the brutal war in Syria. Through her painting, Shahed processes her experiences and expresses her hopes for the future.

| Lasting improvements in physiotherapy services in Uganda
Over four million Ugandans live with a physical challenge, and most of them are severely poor as a result. Many cases of disability can be treated with adequate physiotherapy, but there are not enough professionals in Uganda. We are working to make a lasting positive impact in the country.
